Zusammenfassung

Wenn ein Mensch von einer ernsthaften Erkrankung getroffen wird, sind Familie und Umfeld mit betroffen. Im Familiensystem können Probleme und auch Reserven liegen, die erkannt und entsprechend psychosozial unterstützt werden sollen. Sollen wir immer einen Strohhalm anbieten? Die Rolle der Kinder bei schwerer Erkrankung eines Familienmitgliedes wird nur selten angesprochen. Dabei leiden Kinder sehr, wenn ein Todesfall die Familie erschüttert. Stadien und Sinn der Trauer werden beschrieben. Trauerarbeit ist auch eine wesentliche Aufgabe für Ärzte und die Pflegekräfte. Angst, Depressionen und Verwirrtheitszustände sowie Suizidgedanken, physische und psychische Nähe, Sexualität und Seelsorge werden betrachtet, schließlich der Augenblick des Todes.
