Zusammenfassung

Die Vulvovaginalkandidose ist eine Infektion mit Pilzen der Gattung Candida der östrogenisierten Vagina und des Vestibulums, die am äußeren Genitale, der Scheide, der Interkruralregion sowie der Perianalregion anzutreffen ist. Im deutschen Sprachraum ist die Bezeichnung Vulvovaginalkandidose oder Candida albicans – Vulvovaginitis üblich (Mendling 2006). Häufig wird auch der Begriff Candidiasis verwendet, v. a. wegen der weiten Verbreitung und Nutzung im angloamerikanischen Sprachraum. Allerdings sollte die Änderung „-iasis“ für eine Infektion mit Parasiten genutzt werden (Mendling 2006).
